

each time he dies, they make sure he comes back, but they make him start over. they wiped his memories of any knowledge they thought would cloud his mind and stuck him on a floating island to survive. phil is currently their chosen mortal and has been for a number of centuries. to atone for what had been wrought, the gods would take a mortal and give them the ability to make a difference. with the responsible gods left to the fates they made, the remaining gods turned to mortals to place the rest of the blame. phil's universe is the aftermath of a climate apocalypse brought on by godly interference into mortal affairs. meeting a human techno is a bit of a surprise. the techno from his universe, from what he'd heard, was a hybrid, though. tommy's wilbur was pretty similar to this one. his tommy was slightly younger (14ish) than this one. in techno's universe, he and wilbur were more like twins. his techno was in his late teens, and tommy was 12. in wilbur's universe, he was the oldest sibling. none of them match up quite right with the versions of themselves from the others' universes age-wise. wilbur is in his 20s, techno is ~20, and tommy is 16-17. phil is physically still in his 30s, but he knows he's been alive far, far longer than the average mortal.

their basic appearances often resemble the person who found them. the children that come from the apples then become adaptive shifters as they become comfortable with those raising them. they become children if those who pass them by on their first day down are worthy of raising them. golden apple shifters originate from golden apples fallen from trees. phil is an avian, wilbur is an avian but doesn’t call himself one, techno is a human, and tommy is a golden apple shifter.
